Dummy Duck 7 Characters!

Characters from Dummy 7!!

Retrogaming is cool right? Well this is kind of like that! Sort of…

Dummy Duck 7 is a new MS-DOS game that’s in the works now. It’s being made with the old retro MS-DOS program RSD Game-Maker. It’s a really cool program, so if you want to make your own videogames you should definitely check it out at the Game-Maker Archive!

Dummy swings a sword!

By the power of Greyskull!

The intention is to make Dummy 7 feel like playing an old-school NES game. All of the art will hopefully look like something that could have been on an old 8-bit Nintendo game. The story is loosely based on the Dummy Duck novel. Dummy and his friends start off what seems like a normal day, and things just start getting weirder and weirder. Right now the game is in early stages of pre-production. I’ll keep posting new stuff as I’m working on it!

*Update!!*
Check it out! Here’s a new video showing a character test from the game I’m working on, Dummy 7. The point of the video was to show off how the different characters would interact with the same environment. So, I made a small room and let each one do something different. Foo-foo is a dog, so he can dig in the ground. Lil’ Red is small and he can fly into places that the others couldn’t reach. I wanted Dummy to be able to “break the 4th wall” and sort of “step outside of the game”, so I let him walk through doors that take him to the “backstage” of the game. He also swings around a big sword, because… why not? Here’s a video, courtesy of the Game-Maker Archive

The real reason I’m doing making this game is to kind of show off RSD Game-Maker and some of the advanced things you can do with it. And hopefully we’ll encourage other people to get interested in this great retro video game creation program. My favorite thing about RSD Game-Maker is how easy it is to learn and how quickly you can have your own game up and running. Many other game creation programs have a steep learning curve and are difficult for younger users. RSD Game-Maker is the kind of program that is easy enough for younger users, but the deeper advanced methods will keep older users interested for a long time. And even though it’s been around a long time, I’m sure there are new tricks and techniques that can be done with the program that no one has tried yet. Maybe this game could help renew interest in RSD Game-Maker.

Pre-order Dummy 7! Pay what you want! I’ll send you the game (including updated copies as I continue working on it at no extra charge!) I’ll also send you some other cool stuff that I haven’t thought of yet!
