Previously on Dummy Duck: Dummy expressed his disapproval of taking part of a comic if it wasn’t being printed in a real newspaper, but Lil’ Red convinced him to stay. Later, an imposter showed up who looked exactly like Dummy, but he had an odd habit of speaking only in weather related terms.
File this one under experimental! It almost didn’t reach the wwebsite as on the internet website. Why not? I’m glad you asked. First of all, because I’m overly critical of my own work. About halfway through the week I decided I hated the idea of this comic, and came this close to trashing it and starting over. But as my deadline drew closer and closer, I figured I’d just stick with my original idea and tweak it in Photoshop. I wasn’t sure if I was going to like it, but I think it looks pretty good!
During my extensive research and development phase for this particular comic, I came across something cool. Thie punchline of this comic is obviously a reference to Mos Eisley from Star Wars, but I wanted to see if someone had already thought of the joke first and… I found out that Mos Def actually had covered the Isley brothers! And assuming that Mos Def knows a thing or two about sci-fi I’d like to think he must have made the connection in his mind. So, yeah! That’s it for this week. Bye!

Loooooooooooooooove the background.
Thanks! I did this one a little differently than usual. I painted the background as a single seperate image. Then I drew & painted the characters & text on seperate sheets of paper. And I combined them all in Photoshop. I’m glad you like it!
Love how the characters seem to be almost jumping off the page..the background really almost gives it a 3D look.
You’re right, there is kind of a 3D effect. Thanks!
I should put on my Valiant Vision glasses and see!
I happened upon your blog, and I gotta say, your work is fantastic. I really love your color pallet and your line work. It almost feels like I’m looking at a frame from an animation, the lines give a great deal of motion to the subject. Awesome.
